Quartz glass contains quartz, silicon, and other silicon dioxide materials. Silicon dioxide is formed by melting raw materials at high temperatures. Its silicon dioxide content is much higher than that of ordinary glass, and ordinary quartz glass has a very high silicon dioxide content. It has good optical properties, not only excellent visible light transmittance, but also transmits ultraviolet and infrared light.
In addition to hydrofluoric acid and hot phosphoric acid above 300 degrees, quartz glass can also withstand the erosion of sulfuric acid, nitric acid, and sulfur at high temperatures. Its chemical stability is 30 times that of acid-resistant ceramics, 150 times that of nickel-chromium alloys and ceramics, and can withstand high temperatures.
Quartz glass has excellent electrical properties. At room temperature, its resistance is 10 times that of ordinary glass, its dielectric loss at total frequency is very small, and its insulation withstand voltage strength is very high. It also has the ability to resist cosmic radiation and the properties of non-fission products.
Quartz glass is mainly used in electro-optical sources, semiconductors, and new optical technologies.
1. In terms of new light sources: manufacturing high-pressure mercury lamps, long xenon lamps, iodine tungsten lamps, infrared lamps, and germicidal lamps.
2. In the field of semiconductors: as an indispensable material in the production of semiconductor materials and components.
3. In new technology fields: the performance of sound, light, and electricity, ultrasonic delay lines for radar, infrared tracking and direction finding, vacuum adsorption devices, etc.
4. Aerospace and other fields
Due to aviation reasons, the key parts of spacecraft require materials with high strength, low dielectric constant and dielectric loss, high temperature resistance, low expansion coefficient, and corrosion resistance. Due to its excellent properties, quartz fiber is made into quartz cotton and quartz cloth, which are used to make aircraft nose radomes, rocket nozzles, and ablation materials for spacecraft.
Quartz glass has high purity, appropriate transmittance and refractive index, optical properties, good light transmittance from ultraviolet to infrared light, and heat resistance, and is widely used in the production of optical coatings and electrothermal films.
In recent years, the rapid development of China's optical communication industry, semiconductor industry, solar photovoltaic industry, and aerospace industry has provided a broader market for the development of China's quartz glass industry, enabling China's quartz glass products to reach a higher level.
However, at present, the output of quartz sand available in China's production is low and cannot meet market demand. Some raw materials still need to be imported, which restricts the development of downstream industries. Therefore, improving the technological and equipment level of quartz glass raw materials in China, expanding the production capacity of quartz glass raw materials for the electronic information industry, breaking foreign technology monopolies, and changing the current situation of mainly relying on imports has become an important strategic issue that urgently needs to be solved in the development of China's quartz glass industry.
